1:33drink in technologies dot-com and
1:36there’s a blog section I’m starting to
1:39build out my podcast I think I only have
1:42one right now up there but I do have a
1:45podcast that someone told me the other
1:47day that I interviewed I have 44
1:51podcasts so far so those are going to
1:53get fed into there also and it’s it’s
1:56full of information and it’s information
1:59usually that’s written so or presented
2:02so that you can understand it I am a
2:05coach I really am a coach I coach coach
2:09kids for the last 15 years in football
2:11and various levels
2:13so I I want to meet you where you are at
2:17instead of making you come over to my
2:19side and geek out and fall asleep and
2:22all that stuff so it’s it’s good stuff
2:24it’s easy to understand I think
2:26well that was funny the things I was
2:27really excited again about talking to
2:29you about us because you really make
2:30this stuff you know really stand out
2:32make it simple so let’s talk about first
2:35of all before we talk about Google my
2:37business there’s actually two Google’s
2:40right now and most people aren’t aware
2:42of it I mean they are in some level but
2:44did you explain what you mean when you
2:45say that there are two Google’s yeah
2:49Google gosh it’s been a couple months
2:52now but Google essentially has split
2:56into two results and technically it’s
3:01more than that but for our purposes into
3:04two results one is what we’re used to on
3:07our desktop and our laptop and what we
3:09grew up with Google the Google that we
3:12grew up with and then there’s Google for
3:15our phones and so what that means is
3:19that they will give you a different
3:23result quite often on your phone just in
3:26the way that they present information
3:29will look different it will also not
3:32include your website here’s the bad part
3:34if your website is not mobile friendly
3:36and what mobile-friendly means is that
3:41your year through technology you have
3:46something that’s called a responsive
3:48website responsive simply means that it
3:52stretches and contracts with the size of
3:55the screen you’ll notice that when you
3:58just if you can take your browser on
4:00your desktop and make the browser
4:03smaller and smaller you’ll if it’s
4:05responsive you’ll see it contract down
4:09to what looks it will look like on a
4:12phone or just go to a phone and see if
4:14it’s a mess but typically that’s that’s
4:18really important just the other day I
4:20was looking at a website on upon my
4:24phone of a potential client and I
4:27no I said golly your your phone numbers
4:30not on your mobile version you might
4:33want to get on your web decide about
4:34that so it’s kind of kind of a big deal
4:37but we should always look at both
4:38versions the desktop the the phone and
4:42even a tablet or iPad we should see what
4:45the site looks like well it strikes me
4:49right now when the big tank weighs in
4:50this conversation is go look at your
4:52website on the phone and then make sure
4:54that your phone number is at the top of
4:56the mobile version and if you need to
4:59contact your web supplier and get that
5:01straightened out right I will have
5:04absolutely an and understand that this
5:06is all about phones if your site if your
5:10page is slow especially on a phone and
5:15this is why it they want phone front our
5:19friendly website is people are going to
5:22bail because people’s attention spans
5:25are getting smaller and smaller and
5:28smaller by the day
5:29and I have a word for I call it the
5:32swipe of syndrome where we’re trained
5:35you know if you’re on Facebook and the
5:38kids are going to be oh my god saved
5:40this this world when the kids I’ll get a
5:42kid our age because they’re they’re just
5:45not going to have any attention because
5:48we’re training them to swipe swipe swipe
5:50to the next post boom the next post boom
5:53like it so our tension deficit is
5:56growing I think collectively and so we
5:59don’t have the attention span to wait to
6:03find that phone number that you just
6:05said should be at the top of the page
6:07I’m not going to scroll down because the
6:09way that your responsive site is set up
6:12that it’s you know five or ten spaces
6:15down below somewhere in the middle that
6:17doesn’t make sense the information needs
6:19on a website needs to be presented
6:22fairly quickly well you know that’s a
6:24huge takeaway so this idea of having it
6:26quickly and then having you know you
6:28want people to call you so let’s talk
6:30about what does Google my business do
6:32and why do I as an you why do I as a
6:35Realtor need to be on it well first of
6:38all I think it’s a gift it’s a gift from
6:41goo
6:41well currently and I also think it’s a
6:44it’s not a gift let’s just put it that
6:46way Google my business typically
6:50when it comes up you if and I like to
6:53use let’s get out of real estate for a
6:55minute because it depends on what you
6:58type in but if you put City Plus bakery
7:02or City Plus plumber or just put plumber
7:04in your town you’re going to get
7:06typically a few ads at the top and then
7:10a map and that takes the second half of
7:13the screen if you’re on a typical laptop
7:15the map is of your area your proximity
7:20not necessarily your city but your
7:22proximity to where you are right now if
7:25your phone is giving out a geolocation
7:28to the satellite and Google and all
7:32their wisdom is going to say well boom
7:35there’s a plumber you know right down
7:37the street there will typically be one
7:40two three normally three companies
7:44listed and those are all Google my
7:47business companies okay those are there
7:50and if you click it onto the map you’ll
7:52go to another page in Google which is
7:55the map of the area with a giant list of
7:59businesses and the business that you
8:03clicked over to the side on a panel that
8:05talks about it and the phone number and
8:07all that good stuff it is the new
8:09digital Yellow Pages Google has played
8:13with this for four I’m gosh I want to
8:16say a decade they originally bought the
8:20technology from an online Yellow Pages
8:23company they played with it and I think
8:26its first version was called Google my
8:29places and it wasn’t anything that big
8:32of a deal it wasn’t they really weren’t
8:35sure what they were going to do with it
8:37it seemed like and but it would show up
8:39quite often instead it was instead of
8:43three it was seven businesses and a map
8:45but it wasn’t nearly as sophisticated as
8:47it is now why it’s a big deal is because
8:51Google in essence and has even
8:55implied and said as much as they unlike
8:59the old days where they wanted to get
9:01rid of you they didn’t they felt it was
9:03bad if you came back if I type in time
9:06in Torrance California Torrance plumbing
9:08and in five seconds I come back to
9:12Google that that’s called what we call a
9:14pogo stick that’s bad they gave me a bad
9:16result now they’re better off they feel
9:20not sending their traffic they you know
9:24they look at it to my site they would
9:27rather just a call call Tim the plumber
9:32right here from the digital yellow pages
9:35and they don’t call digital yellow pages
9:37I call it that but essentially that’s
9:39what it is and and so that’s the world
9:44they’ve created so if they’re taking up
9:46if I’m on my laptop they’re taking up a
9:49full page with their ads and their
9:513-pack we call it the three businesses
9:53on the map then I probably if I want
9:58digital traffic I should start
9:59advertising and or I should start
10:02getting into Google my business and
10:05figuring out how to play in in that
10:07realm so that’s why GM B’s for short are
10:12so important so what do I need to do to
10:16start using Google my business walk me
10:18through the steps Tim I’m you know I’m
10:20not familiar with this what do I need to
10:22do well the first thing that you should
10:26do uh anyway whether you want to do
10:29Google my business or you just want to
10:33do a little bit of a brand that check on
10:35yourself is type in your brand into
10:38Google or versions of your brand and
10:42let’s pray to the good Lord that you
10:45don’t have any bad views or something
10:48that’s talking about your brand on on
10:51the first page or the first five pages
10:53right but typically what you’re going to
10:55see is a list in order on Google of how
11:01Google sees your brand in the order of
11:05importance
11:07okay so that’s number one before even
11:09GMB let’s let’s look at what Google
11:12thinks is the most important things it
11:13could shock you that oh this who’s these
11:16who are these guys you know or why is
11:20this lame site ranking on the first page
11:23for my name it should be a better brand
11:26that I’m on that’s showing up on page
11:28one and I’ll tell you why that matters
11:31in a bit but in there you may or may not
11:34see your Google my business
11:35automatically show up if it does not
11:39show up then go over to the maps itself
11:43and type in identifying brand names and
11:48phone numbers and emails for yourself
11:51and see if you come up if you do claim
11:56it it’ll say do you own this business
11:58claim it and so you need to claim it if
12:01you don’t then if you don’t see it it’s
12:03nowhere to be found and this is going to
12:05be quite often with Realtors who are you
12:09know just hanging their license as an
12:11agent they’re not the broker of record
12:13you know you work from home your virtual
12:16etc then go to google.com slash business
12:21or just type in Google my business so
12:25it’ll probably be the first thing that
12:26shows up click the click it sign in and
12:29then claim your address so and then you
12:35want to fill it all out and then we’ll
12:37get into that in a second but the
12:38question that probably is next is well I
12:42work from home I don’t want to give out
12:44my home address right and then I’m the
12:46same I work from home also what is
12:49somebody to do there are tricks that
12:54people do they really want a location so
12:58appeal box by itself is probably not
13:02going to be accepted although you can
13:05surely try a way around that is if the
13:08PIO box is at one to three Apple Street
13:12and it’s peel box five six seven you
13:16could go one one two three Apple Street
13:18Suite five six seven
13:20and you’re right now you’re actually
13:22showing a real a real building as a
13:26location Realtors might say or a lot of
13:30companies might say well you know people
13:32actually come to the site they’re not
13:34going to find anything a point well
13:37taken if you’re a realtor maybe go to an
13:42accountant in an office building down
13:44the street and just say can I rent your
13:46address and if your address is one two
13:50three I could say one two three B and
13:52something along that line in and and
13:56just rent the address that way yeah and
13:58you know hey I’ll pay an extra twenty
14:01five bucks a month or whatever if you
14:03just you know you make sure you tell
14:05them you know that yeah this is my
14:08business and or whatever not lie I’m
14:10saying nothing that but just to direct
14:12them professionally that you’re always
14:14in the field or whatever you want to
14:16tell them they also have these companies
14:19when we work is an example of them where
14:21you can actually rent space they have a
14:23dedicated secretary and phone number for
14:25you as well as an address so that’s
14:27another option that could work really
14:28well for you Tim what the other
14:30questions I have for you you know given
14:32how competitive is out there first of
14:34all most Realtors are going to do
14:35anything with this because there’s a
14:37small percentage of people who stay on
14:39top of everything and most owned
14:41especially when it comes to technology
14:42what can I do to stand out on my
14:45business I’m telling you right now if
14:48you have a business get on GM be like
14:51now run because first of all you said it
14:57a second go not everybody’s going to do
14:59this in fact the masses won’t for the
15:01reason I just said and they got other
15:03things going on so those that actually
15:06will take advantage of it are going to
15:09set them out themselves up for the long
15:12run and there does tend this to be a
15:16thing with Google where age kind of
15:19helps if you’ve been established on
15:21Google my business for for a while and
15:24you keep adding to it and whatnot
15:27it will give you a little bit of an
15:30advantage so get on it it’s not that
15:33difficult
15:35basically the process is again
15:38google.com slash business they’re going
15:41to ask you for your business name
15:42they’re going to ask you for your name
15:47and address and phone number and your
15:50URL that’s what they’re going to ask for
15:53and then a number of other things the
15:56last four that I’ll get into in a second
15:58but they’ll either verify you right away
16:02or more than likely say we’ll send you a
16:05postcard in that you have to give us the
16:09postcard PIN number when you sign back
16:12in and that will verify you as the real
16:14deal so that’s the process the the quick
16:20and dirty process it probably is going
16:23to be a postcard that you’re going to go
16:25through and you’re going to have to come
16:28back in about a week it’ll take about a
16:30week if you don’t get it request another
16:32one this is not a digital postcard this
16:36is a snail mail postcard I old-school
16:39yes that’s funny right it’s an
16:41old-school postcard which which is funny
16:46because Google is all about digital and
16:49would love the final way to avoid having
16:52to use anything but the Internet but
16:55they actually do mail it to ya now the
16:58important thing that that people need to
17:01realize your that your nap your name
17:04address phone number and URL are the
17:07same across the web so if you fill it
17:10out at Google my business and then I’m
17:14on line a Mazel dole over to Yelp and do
17:16that which I highly recommend by the way
17:18fill it out the same way it’s the same
17:20name it’s the same address the same
17:22phone number same URL what I mean by
17:25that is WWF site com is not the same as
17:32HTTPS /ww com slash okay so ever it is
17:40make sure it’s the same on your web site
17:42and on Google and everywhere else and it
17:45will help now as you get
17:48access to that GMB or google my business
17:51you’re going to want to fill everything
17:54out what what you do on an authority
17:58website which Google my business is so
18:01you’re going to have the information
18:02you’re going to be your hours you’re
18:04going to have all the normal stuff you
18:05might fill out anywhere on a directory
18:08type site and then you’re going to have
18:10pictures ok and lots of opportunities
18:12for pictures so upload them pictures
18:14that’s great you can even put in the
18:18video now I don’t understand why they
18:20won’t do this but right now you have to
18:22upload the video raw you can’t just link
18:26it to YouTube where all you’ve been told
18:28by Google to put all your stuff if
18:29you’ve been doing it well you can’t link
18:32that so you got to maybe download that
18:34that video and then re-upload it into
18:37Google my business but it’s it’s nice
18:39you know they give you a lot of I think
18:41what YouTube does is it creates a
18:43standard format and cleans up all kinds
18:45of issues that come from people coming
18:48in off of different video platforms and
18:51it makes it consistent so it’s you know
18:53I think it’s just the way that they’re
18:55controlling things so to kind of wrap up
18:58what’s one final takeaway for us today
19:00Tim the new social media is Google my
19:04business if everybody else is done as
19:07far as organic social media and why I
19:11say that is Google as I said earlier
19:16want you to go through their site this
19:21in my opinion is their social media
19:24because I get to do a couple things I
19:28get to share post so its might as well
19:31call it a blog they don’t call it a blog
19:33but you can treat it like a blog a blog
19:35you get several words I can’t remember
19:38how many I think it’s 300 for each post
19:41in that post they’ll ask you do you want
19:43to share this to Facebook you want to
19:45share this to Twitter do you want to
19:47share it to Google+ sure I suggest doing
19:50that and now you have three Authority
19:53links back to your Google+ you’re asking
19:56me earlier how can I get better if I’m
19:58going to competitive market this is how
20:00make sure you post
20:02suggest even doing it daily if you blog
20:06on your own site I congratulate you if
20:10you do it consistently I would say just
20:12take that blog post and reference it
20:15they ask you would you like the link to
20:18something and just link back to your
20:21blog post now you’re building SEO up a
20:25hint hint because you have a link from
20:28Facebook to your Google my business post
20:30back to the original source which is
20:33your your blog and soon there’s going to
20:37be available automatically where your
20:40blog will be able to I’ll have that
20:42available werewolf if you’re blogging
20:44over at your site it’ll automatically go
20:46into your Google well you’re seeing what
20:50you’re predicting then is now I see I
20:52think Facebook and Twitter and these
20:55sites are going to have problems because
20:56of the chat box and Facebook is spending
20:59millions of dollars on this but you see
21:01the real play right now is Google my
21:02business so I guess that’s our takeaway
21:05for today is that you’re not a Google
21:07business you Google my business
21:09get there and get there now oh well yeah
21:11absolutely and just one stat on the
21:14facebook that you said only five about
21:17fun unless you’re advertising you’re
21:19only getting five to put 10 percent of
21:21all those likes you worked so hard for
21:23are even seeing what you wrote so it’s
21:28almost like why bother just use it as a
21:30funnel to get them over to Google my
21:32business and again unless you’re
21:34advertising that’s a different
21:35conversation
21:36I tend this has been a fascinating
